I'm not positive, but I think Captain McCrea's name might be a reference to McCrae from The Black Hole.

What makes that even more interesting (in an ironic sort of way) is that Wall-E isn't exactly the assertive type. He's the opposite -- receptive (not to be confused with "submissive"). And I'm exactly the same way! Every girl I ever had a crush on was always the assertive type just like Eve and I was always the receptive one. Which is why I've been a confidant to many people (women, men, children, animals, etc.). And yet some call me a "sociopath." ;p
